    how it happened

Penn was out quickly on Friday, with Padilla hitting a three-pointer on the Quakers’ first possession and the Tooders turning Gwynedd’s turnover into another basket. GMU’s Kelly Owens said shortly after that he boarded his Griffins at Trey.

It was 8 to 5 that the Quakers blew it. Sawyer trey set him off the pen with a 12-0 run and the score made him 20-5 with 3:21 still to play in the first quarter. GMU scored his next six with triples from Owens and Kayla Sharkey, but Penn’s lead was one after he was 27-13.

Penn then scored 9 of their first 11 points in the second quarter to lift their lead to 36โ€“15, with Gwynedd Mercy double the rest of the half by a margin of under 20. Red and Blue took his 45-22 lead into his locker room.

It took a while for things to get back on track in the third quarter, but once Penn joined the board, the Quakers never looked back. It was 46-24 when the red and blue started a fast break, scoring 10 points within two minutes to force a timeout for Gwynedd. The lead continued to balloon to 40 (68-28), with the Quakers in front at 70-33 in the third quarter. In the frame, Rogers secured her first college points.
