Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940 in Torres Corazóz, Brazil, Pele is a winner. As a forward for the national team, he helped bring the FIFA World Cup to his home country three times in his 30-year career.
2. Pele is a movie star.
Starred in 1980s blockbusters victory as a football player and a soldier among other international films. He has also made films about his spectacular life.
3. Pele was the best.
This guy has won every football award, won every tournament, and has scored more goals than any other player. While some might argue otherwise, a true football expert says no one can match his level of skill on the football field. He is or will be the best.
4. Pele loved the bicycle kick.
It’s not invented by him, but it’s a kick that’s definitely perfected and made famous. Pele turns upside down and shoots the ball behind him during this highly acrobatic feat. If the ball flies by and into the net, the kick is always caught without the goalkeeper’s knowledge.
5. Pele was a humanitarian.
After several years of field experience, he has devoted himself to philanthropic work and improving the lives of his fellow Brazilians. He is active with the charity UNICEF and many other children’s organizations.
