Massachusetts plans to launch direct sports betting in the state on Tuesday, two weeks before the Super Bowl and well before March Madness.

In-person sports betting will begin at the casino on Tuesday at 10am, while mobile sports betting will begin in early March, though an exact date has yet to be given. The Massachusetts Gambling Commission held a meeting on Monday, and the state was expected to approve operating certificates for three casinos to begin accepting bets.

Former Gov. Charlie Baker signed legislation last August to legalize betting on professional and college sports, joining more than 30 states, including neighboring states. Baker said he supported it because residents of the state were already traveling to Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and Connecticut to place legal bets. expects to generate as much as $50 million in additional revenue.

In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the ban on sports betting is unconstitutional.

Beginning Tuesday, those wishing to place bets should go directly to Everett’s Encore Boston Harbor, Plainridge Park Casino, or MGM Springfield.

Encore Boston Harbor

Legal sports betting began Tuesday at Everett’s Encore Boston Harbor, the state’s largest and newest casino, also the first to secure a gaming license. Plainridge Park Casino

Plainridge Park Casino will begin accepting in-person sports betting for the first time on Tuesday at 10am, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1pm with former New England Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich.
