Pelicans’ Zion Williamson (hamstring) out for at least 3 weeks

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans are gearing up for another long stint without forward Zion Williamson.

The Pelicans announced Tuesday that Williamson has injured his right hamstring and will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Williamson was injured Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

He has appeared in 29 of the Pelicans’ (23-14) first 37 games of the season, coming in Tuesday’s game from No. 1 in the Western Conference behind Denver and Memphis. Williamson is a team-leading scoring average of 26.0 points per game this season, averaging 7.0 rebounds and his 4.6 assists on a 61% shooting percentage.

He has led the Pelicans in 17 of 29 games.

Williamson missed the 2021-22 season entirely, with injuries limiting him to 85 games in the first two seasons.

He missed two games in October due to bruises on his right hip and lower back. He played three games in November with a bruise on his right leg. Three games in December while under NBA health and safety protocols.

The Pelicans are 6-2 this season without Williamson. They will host Houston on Wednesday.
