NFL.com Names 2022 LB Alex Singleton ‘Unsung Hero’ For Denver Broncos

For most of the 2022 season, the Denver Broncos’ starting linebacking duo, Josie Jewell and Alex Singleton, have done a great job. Neither would be confused with San Francisco’s Fred Warner or Dallas’ Micah Parson, but for the most part, the Denver duo remained stable and consistent throughout the season.

Over the past few years, Denver’s off-ball linebacker play has smirked at even the biggest skeptics this season. Given the unit’s struggles against Travis Kelce, the greatest tight end in NFL history, and others, the position is so infamous that many fans type “LINEBACKER!” I will spend On selected social media accounts.

But Singleton’s play was so unexpected last season that he was named the Broncos’ Unsung Hero for the 2022 season by NFL.com’s Nick Shook.

I originally chose Pat Surtain II for this, but his first-team All-Pro designation shows he’s getting his due. But Singleton is still flying under the radar even though he just compiled his best season as a pro. The PFF folks didn’t sleep on Singleton: they rated him 79.1 overall. This came as a result of Denver being forced to promote a quiet offseason addition who joined the Broncos as a depth defender and special team member. He ended up starting in his 12 games and leading the team with 163 tackles. After he became a free agent in his March and played a key role in the stellar (but ultimately wasted) Broncos defense, Singleton should be a hot spot on the open market. am. He certainly earned it.

Singleton excelled in the areas Shook mentioned earlier, but also stood out in a few other stats. pro soccer focus It wasn’t a “grade”. He was his 11th best in the NFL He missed 6.5% I was sixth. Singleton upsets no one defensively for his back, but he allowed 224 total yards, the 12th-lowest after a catch last season.

Singleton was so solid last season that he failed to earn First Team or Second Team All-Pro honors, but aside from Patrick Sartane II and Justin Simmons, the only Broncos voted he was the only one

It remains to be seen if Singleton will return to Denver next season. The Broncos will likely need to increase his contract by a good margin to keep him, given his play in 2022. Franchise.

The 2022 season didn’t go as planned for the Broncos. From a career-worst year after former All-Pro quarterback Russell Wilson gave up enough capital to acquire him, to the Broncos firing their first-ever head coach before the regular season ended. Last season was a year that fans were collectively excited about… put them behind.

While last season was a huge disappointment for Denver, there were still many bright spots for fans to reflect and appreciate in the midst of their disappointment. Became the first cornerback voted on the team. Meanwhile, wideout Jerry Jeudy started looking like a player the Broncos drafted in the first round of 2020, carrying 33 receptions. 458 yards and 3 touchdowns in the final five games of the season.

The Broncos, with nothing to play but Pride, dropped Kansas City down the wire on the streets and gave the Los Angeles Chargers (inexplicably a starter even though the Week 18 game meant nothing to them). played) to close out the season. But don’t get confused. 2022 stinks for the Broncos, but there was something to smile about as a fan.
