Now that the holiday season is in the rearview mirror, it’s time for Major League Baseball’s offseason to restart meaningfully. Here at CBS Sports, we strive to bring all of Wednesday’s rumors, news, and notes in one place for your convenience. With that in mind, let’s get down to it.

    Kueto market heats up

Veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto has attracted interest from the Padres, Marlins and Reds. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic,.

Cueto, who was 37 in February, appeared in 25 games for the White Sox last season. He amassed his 3.35 ERA (118 ERA+) and his 3.09 strikeout rate. His contribution was worth more than an estimated 3.5 wins.

Cueto was ranked by CBS Sports as the 49th best free agent available this winter.

Monk Yongei Mingyur once wrote that confusion is the beginning of understanding. Confusion is the whole understanding of Cueto. He doesn’t throw hard or miss, but he limits the quality of his contact by confusing hitters. His Shell His game is built from a combination of deception, movement and precision. Cueto changes the tempo and lowers his release point. He disguises strikes as balls (and vice versa). And he’s now benefiting from what he calls Seam He Shifts He Wake. He’s a wise smoke and mirror artist, still learning new tricks like stopping curveballs and using more sinkers and cutters. It seems that there is a one-year contract for working.

Next season will be Cueto’s 16th season in the majors.

    The Brewers and Miley Reunite

The Milwaukee Brewers and southpaw starter Wade Miley have agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal. According to MLB.comMiley previously pitched for the Brewers in 2018 and had a very good, albeit shortened (16 starts) season.

Injuries also limited him to just nine appearances (eight starts) for the Cubs last season, but his time on the mound has been reasonably effective. He has only managed 89 starts in a season. Even in his shortened 2020 season, he was only pitching his 14 1/3 innings. He can work as a back-end left-hander.

The Brewers have an easy and obvious four-man rotation in Corbin Barnes, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta and Eric Lauer, with either Miley or Adrian Hauser being options for the final spot. Barnes and Woodruff have been speculated as trade candidates, but Milwaukee has retained them so far.

The Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with veteran right-hander Zach Davis. According to Jon Heyman of the New York PostDavies could get up to $3 million in incentives, according to Heyman.

Davis, who turned 30 in February, started 27 games for the Diamondbacks last season, posting a 4.09 ERA (98+ ERA) and a 1.96 strikeout percentage in 134 innings. According to his baseball reference calculations, Davis has pitched in some of his 8 his seasons in the major leagues, earning a 103 ERA+ and an estimated 9.6 wins.

The Davis figure will be thrown in near the back of the Diamondbacks rotation. In recent weeks, Arizona has signed third baseman Evan Longoria, relievers Miguel Castro and Scott McGoff, and traded catcher Gabriel Moreno and outfielders Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Kyle Lewis. there is

    Brewers Acquire Right-Handed Pitcher

Righty Bryce Wilson was named by the Pirates last week and the Brewers are now acquiring him for cash considerations.

Wilson, 25, went 3-9 with a 5.52 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 115 2/3 innings last season in Pittsburgh. He was named in his fourth round out of high school by the Braves in his 2016 and moved quickly through the season to make his Braves debut in 2018. To this point, he has not fared well at his level in the major leagues (5.54 ERA, 5.26 FIP in 232 1/3 innings).

However, the Brewers have a good pitching infrastructure, so this could be a great move for Wilson’s career.
