Omaha, Nebraska — Four different Blue Jays finished in double figures as the Clayton Men’s Basketball Team opened 2023 with an 83-61 victory over Seton Hall 83-61 on Wednesday, January 3.
With the win, the Blue Jays are 9-6 on the season and 3-1 against the Big East, while Seton Hall are 8-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Early in the game, the Blue Jays struggled off the field, hitting only 2 of 11 (18.2%), but Clayton found his rhythm with three consecutive tries. Alexander’s three-point kick kicked off his 12-0 run for the Blue Jays and with 9:23 left he pushed the lead to 22-10. Clayton made 15-of-32 field goals in the first half, including 8-of-15 from long range, to take a 43-22 lead at halftime.
The Blue Jays continued their frenzy as the second half began. Clayton hit his first seven shots from the field in the second half to take a 65-33 lead with 9:59 left.
Ryan Kalkbrenner He led all-time scorers with 17 points and had eight rebounds and a career-high six blocks. Karma had 14 points and 11 rebounds in his first double-double of the season. Ryan Nemhard Posted 15 and 14 points respectively.
Seton Hall scored a game-high 16 points from Femi Odukale and 11 from Trey Jackson.
Clayton will return to hardwoods on Saturday, January 7th in a road contest at Connecticut No. 4. The game is scheduled to tip off at 11am on FOX.
