The LA Clippers went all-in in the summer of 2019, acquiring both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Swapping young star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for George, the Clippers signed Leonard and built the most talented roster in franchise history.
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, who was coaching the Clippers at the time, recently admitted he wasn’t sure about the deal. Philadelphia vs. OKC When he was asked about Gilgeous-Alexander before the Thunder game, Rivers revealed his candid feelings about the young star and the deal that sent him to OKC.
“One of my favorite players,” Rivers said. “It reminds me a lot of Tyrese. [Maxey], as much as his approach. He’s a rookie year and one of those youngsters you couldn’t coach enough. I brought some [Gilgeous-Alexander] Stand out. Quiet demeanor but tough, you knew this was coming. I believe “
Rivers continued, “When I was in LA, the day we decided to make the move, I wasn’t sure about it. He’s a good boy, so I’m really happy to have him.”
It was clear very early on that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was special. He is currently one of the best players in the NBA.
