Columbia, Missouri (KMIZ)
Last year, not only did central Missouri news stories get their fair share of coverage, but there was a time when weather and sports made the headlines.
A snowstorm hit February 2nd, with parts of Missouri seeing nearly 11 inches of snow. Here in Colombia, 15.5 inches of last winter’s total snowfall fell in his February.
On May 19th, Phelps County suffered severe weather damage.
Summer is dominated by record heat and drought. The lack of rain lasted through the end of the summer, and drought plagued central Missouri and the rest of the country.
2022 brought the last winter gusts before Christmas as the Arctic front set temperatures in the negative and a wind chill of minus 33 degrees was reported in central Missouri.
In March, the University of Missouri announced its next basketball coach in Dennis Gates.
The Mizo gymnastics team had a historic season by competing in the national championships.
Sports Director Natalie Jones traveled to Las Vegas to witness the induction of legendary Mizot head coach Gary Pinkel into the College Football Hall of Fame.
And the return of the Border Showdown at Mizzou Arena will see the Tigers host the Kansas Jayhawks before a packed crowd.
