Green Bay Packers fans got a substantial update on status 2 essential pieces of defense on Thursday..
As the race for the top seed in the NFC narrows, the Green Bay Packers are wanting to get in the homestretch of the season healthier than they are now.
Two crucial pieces of the defense stay out, although there is hope that theyll both be healthy sufficient to contribute as soon as the playoffs show up– if not sooner.
Green Bay has lacked cornerback Jaire Alexander because he sprained his air conditioner joint back at the beginning of October in a win over the Steelers. Pass rush ZaDarius Smith has been out because Week 1, when it was discovered he required back surgical treatment.
On Thursday, Matt LaFleur gave an upgrade on where Alexander and Smith were in their development to being healthy enough to play.

Alexander is continuing to enhance his shoulder and “its going excellent however hes still a long method out.”.
Sounds like Smith might be better: “Well see where hes at in couple of weeks.

Thats not exactly what anyone in Green Bay wishes to hear.
Its not all gloom-and-doom.
Even without two crucial pieces of its defense, Green Bay sits at 7-2 and atop the NFC North. Had Aaron Rodgers not tested positive for COVID-19 or had he been vaccinated, theres a pretty decent chance the Packers dont lose in Week 9 to the Chiefs and stay in full control of the NFCs top playoff seed.
Given that the Week 1 loss to New Orleans, the Packers have actually permitted an average of only 17 points per video game. Keep in mind that was completely without Smith and primarily without Alexander in the lineup.
Not having two essential pieces of the defense must be a near-fatal blow to any other group in the NFL, but the Packers have done more than merely tread water without them. Theres definitely no rush to get either back in the lineup prior to their ready, and Packers fans can fall asleep dreaming about just how much better the defense is going to get when January shows up and the true journey to the Super Bowl starts
