MacDonald went into the PFL off a six-fight stint in the Bellator, where he defeated Douglas Lima for the Bellator welterweight world championship. He maintained the title twice in the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix, fighting Jon Fitch to a draw and defeating Neiman Gracie before dropping the title back to Lima in the final.
Like MacDonald, Millender is also a UFC veterinarian. He scored a knockout of Thiago Alves and decision wins over Max Griffin and Siyar Bahadurzada before losing to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Belal Muhammad. After being cut by the UFC, he returned to Bellator for a set of fights, defeating Moses Murrietta and losing to Sabah Homasi.
