Mets: Jacob deGrom loses on successive strikeout record, but still impresses vs. Rockies
With this nod, deGrom is now the ninth pitcher in MLB history to tape-record nine successive strikeouts in a game, signing up with the likes of Max Scherzer, Jake Peavy and most just recently Tyler Alexander.
After just missing out on connecting the consecutive strikeouts record, the Mets got themselves in a jam. The Rockies scored three runs in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI triple from catcher Dom Nunez, a sacrifice fly from pinch player Yonathan Daza and a solo house run by outfielder Raimel Tapia.
Fortunately for deGrom is that all of those runs were unearned and the Mets returned to win 4-3 in their first video game of the Saturday doubleheader. deGrom left the video game after six innings logged, where he set out an absurd 14 batters. To make matters that far more interesting, this is the 2nd consecutive video game in which deGrom taped 14 strikeouts! He is simply on another level.
While deGrom lost out on joining Seaver in the history books, there is still lots of time left for him to accomplish that feat. Offered his play so far this season, we like his possibilities.

Jacob deGrom could not match Tom Seavers streak of 10 consecutive strikeouts. His own streak ends at nine, making him one of eight pitchers to achieve that accomplishment.
Still, 9 straight strikeouts. Wow: pic.twitter.com/lg60Br2ors

During said video game, deGrom set out 9 successive Rockies batters to bring him one except connecting the record set by Mets legend Tom Seaver (10 ). Unfortunately for deGrom, he fell just short of it in the bottom of the fifth inning after Rockies 3rd baseman Josh Fuentes reached first on a tossing mistake by second baseman Jeff McNeil.

Jacob deGrom has actually set out 9 consecutive batters. Hes the 9th pitcher in MLB history to do so within a game. Tom Seaver has the record with 10 in a row.
deGrom also has his 48th career 10-strikeout game, 2nd-most in Mets history, behind just Tom Seaver (60) pic.twitter.com/7Y4uu3eG4r
